Interview With Lynda Goldman, Author and Author-Coach:
My goal is to help my readers and clients to grow their practices – whether that’s a solo practice or a huge health system or hospital. I therefore look for people who can add value for my audience. People who have been-there-done-that. People who can share tools and tips that will take our listeners closer to their perfect medical practice. To help establish you as the authority in your area of practice; to provide the optimal patient experience; to improve the health of your patient community.
Become an Instant Authority
It is a given that one of the best ways to grow your practice is for your future patients to view you as an authority in your specialty. And perhaps the best way to be perceived as an authority is to publish a book.
Author-Coach
Now before you dismiss that notion as unrealistic, listen to an expert who can help you become a published author. In as little as three months! Toward that goal, over at the Russ & Randy Podcast, I had a chat with author and author-coach, Lynda Goldman. See her bio below for more.
Lynda now works with health professionals to help them publish their books – and she will help you do the same. Lynda confirms that publishing a book establishes your authority. Immediately. Powerfully. It’s difficult to match the authority of having “written the book” on a subject.

Design Your Dream Practice!
What subject? That’s up to you. I urge you to choose a subject that (1) is in your area of expertise; and (2) – more importantly – will appeal to your ideal patient. That is, decide on the type of patients that you most enjoy helping in your practice. The type of patient that leaves you fulfilled at the end of a long day in clinic. Publish a book that will establish you as an authority that will bring those patients to your practice. In this way, you can “design” your perfect practice. Your dream practice. Filled with your perfect patients.
More Benefits of Becoming a Published Author
Lynda also reminds us that publishing a book helps to educate your patient community. And, as Russ & Randy have discussed before, educated patients give you a streamlined practice:
- Your educated patients have fewer questions
- Your educated patients make fewer phone calls (uses fewer resources)
- Your educated patients take much less time in clinic
- Your educated patients are happier patients
- Your educated patients are healthier patients
- Your educated patients report a better patient experience
Note that many of these benefits result in greater demand for your services, and many of these translate to a healthier financial bottom line for your practice.
Publishing vs Writing
Notice that the conversation with Lynda Goldman emphasizes that you should publish your book, not necessarily that you must write your book. She points out that many physicians who have published books have done so by using ghost-writers. She also points out that this is an extremely expensive route to take. Fortunately, she offers to share some hacks in her upcoming Wellness Writer’s Bootcamp to help get you published without the need of a ghost-writer. There are alternatives.
Alternatives to Traditional Publishers
The next big tip she shares is the value of avoiding big publishing houses when you publish your book. There are many excellent options for getting your book published these days without resorting to traditional publishers. Advantages of avoiding those publishers include you keeping a much larger percentage of the book sale price. You will also be able to include self-promotion links to your practice website in your book, something that traditional publishers don’t allow.
Lynda reminds us that becoming a published author offers benefits beyond merely growing your practice. Published authors become recognized resources for journalists looking for experts to quote; published authors become paid speakers in their areas of expertise; published experts become well-paid consultants.
In Summary
Becoming a published author will ROCK your professional brand.
