Be a Medical Guest Blogger: How to Guest Blog for Another Healthcare Website

By Russ Leave a Comment

I’m here to help you grow your practice. Toward that goal, you might consider starting that podcast that you’ve been thinking about! Randy and I recently discussed how writing for someone else’s blog – as a medical guest blogger – can benefit your own professional brand. Click Here to listen to that episode of the Russ&Randy Podcast “Tips-in-10” (practical tips to brand and market your clinical practice or hospital in about 10 minutes) for details.

Benefits of Medical Guest Blogging

Here is a brief summary of the benefits of Medical Guest Blogging:

  1. You gain exposure to a whole new audience – but be sure to select a another blog that has a similar focus and similar audience.
  2. You demonstrate your expertise in your practice niche.
  3. You gain “quality back-links” from an “authority” site.
  4. Google and other search engines take notice, and improve ranking of your website.
  5. Improved search-engine rank of your website increases traffic to your site.

To summarize: medical guest-blogging is great for your SEO!!

The question I’ve been receiving is,

“How do I ask someone to write for their healthcare blog? How do I become a medical guest blogger?”

Here is my proven step-by-step approach to healthcare guest-blogging (should work for any niche).

  1. Start a list of sites you’re interested in guest-blogging for.
  2. Add a brief summary of the content they provide their audience. Only focus on those sites that you can add value to!
  3. Study their writing and content style. What is the tone? What titles do they use? How are their articles formatted? Focused, single-topics; or broad overviews? Average length? Use of images?
Look through their blog/website for their most popular articles: those with the most likes, shares, or comments.
  4. Create two to four titles with a short summary or bullet points for the content you’ll propose. Make it easy and irresistible for them. Personalize your request.
  5. Read their guidelines for guest-bloggers, if any.
  6. Take the time and effort to find a way to contact them – other than the contact page on their website. If necessary, call their office, ask for their email from the office manager.
  7. Collect links to your best three articles you’ve written so far: do not make them research your writing style. Make it as frictionless as possible!
  8. Obtain license-free images to include with your articles.

Example  INQUIRY LETTER  for Medical Guest-Blogging:

Hi _____!

I’ve been following your blog for a while now, and I love your content. Every time I read a post, I /// include your honest compliment here///

I’m reaching out to see whether you’d be interested in featuring a guest post from __mention your blog here__, a top-rated healthcare blog with _____ visits every month. ///if your blog doesn’t have much traffic, focus instead on your expertise in your niche///

I believe that we can add value for your audience on a few topics, so I’ve included those topics I think would resonate with your audience here:

  1. Proposed topic / title
    – brief summary
  2. Proposed topic / title
    – brief summary
  3. Proposed topic / title
    – brief summary

Here are links to examples of my writing style: ///provide links to your own blog articles here///

Thanks so much for considering my request! And I assure you, I will make this process as frictionless as possible for you by sending you a formatted document with internal links included (links to your blog content) that you can copy and paste directly into WordPress.

I will also provide relevant license-free images for use in my articles.

To your continued success,
Your dedicated healthcare guest-blogger

Rules to be a Good Medical Guest Blogger

Once your article appears on the other healthcare website, show your gratitude by doing each of the following – and the owner of that site will be more likely to invite you back as a medical guest-blogger!

  1. Link to the post from your own website
  2. Promote the post on Twitter
  3. Share it on Facebook
  4. Thank the person!
  5. Check in regularly and respond to any comments

Return the Favor

Finally, consider returning the favor: invite the owner of that blog to send you an article for your blog. Note that if you are in different locations, you are not competing for local/regional website traffic — even if you practice in exactly the same practice niche! So look for a blog that has the greatest relevance to your own practice niche for your medical guest blogging experience.
